The Horror Genre

As we all know Poe and HP Lovecraft have contributed a lot to literature and inspired numerous horror movies and stories. A tv show that sticks out to me when thinking about these two incredible authors is a Netflix series named, Locke and Key. There is horror with suspension that keeps you on your toes, wondering what will happen next. In this show, it follows the death of a father who leaves behind a family legacy of keys to his 3 children, not ones that open doors, reality-bending ones. In this way, I compare it to HP Lovecraft's work in Color our of space, both brought in a concept that is completely out of the ordinary and strange. As well as in Poe's writings, for example, the Raven, the character wants is amused by the talking raven. And just like in Poes and HP Lovecraft, the show Locke and Key has a turn and turns dark, the keys unlock some horrible people and scary places. These two authors have brought a new concept in the art of literature and started a new light in the minds of hundreds of authors writing about Horror. It took a couple of pieces of their work to inspire a whole new genre and lead future authors to provide us with all the amazing horror movies and shows we have today. This genre allows million to create ideas and plots, that can lead to amazing productions. I believe without them we would be missing out completely.

This is only the first line and it already gives off a dark kind of feeling to the story. It is apparent that the person is talking to themselves in a way. When the first line says a woman touches him and then quickly takes her hands off, it is almost like it has happened before. It seems that it brings his hopes up that someone is finally there and then he snaps into a reality that he is in fact alone. He even admits it but when he does he masks the laugh for his sadness or scaredness.  So right off the bat, the reader will think it is a ghost and it makes the story even more so creepy. And as for the line of the headless man, it adds mystery. And finally, the l...
